Wits End Poetry presents In Celebration of 22nd Years of Slam on Sunday, July 27th at Coffee Underground at 7:30pm. Poetry Slam was invented by Marc Smith (So What?) in Chicago in 1986 and has since spread worldwide. Poets from across the South East will converge on Coffee Underground to celebrate the slam anniversary and to compete for $200 first prize. Judges chosen from the audience! There is a $5 cover.
Simply put, poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry. It puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they're saying and how they're saying it. A poetry slam is an event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. For more information, visit http://www.witsendpoetry.com. (Image provided by Wits End.)
