Two Spartanburg County public school leaders have earned “Superintendent of the Year” honors from two different state associations for professional educators.
Spartanburg District One superintendent Dr. Jimmy Littlefield was named Superintendent of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) and will represent South Carolina in the National Superintendent of the Year competition. Dr. Jim Ray, superintendent of Spartanburg District Three, has been named 2008 Outstanding School Superintendent of the Year by the Career and Technology Education Administrators’ Division of South Carolina. That award was presented during the Annual Business Education Summit in Greenville. Littlefield has been an educator for 39 years, serving as Spartanburg One’s superintendent for the past 21 years. Under his leadership, Spartanburg One was one of the first four school districts in the state – and one of 150 in the country – to receive district accreditation status. Littlefield is a former member of the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Association of Superintendents and has served on the executive board of the SC High School League. This recognition is Dr. Ray’s eighth statewide leadership award since 2004. He’s also been honored by the American Cancer Society, the Association of School Administrators, the School Counselors Association and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.
