Wits End Poetry presents the Carolina Slam tour - a nationals style slam bout between Slam Charlotte, the Bull City Slam of Durham, and the Upstate Carolina Slam Team on Friday, July 25th at 7:30pm at the Hub Bub Show Room on Daniel Avenue in downtown Spartanburg. These powerful teams are preparing to compete in the National Poetry slam this August in Madison, Wisconsin. Last year Slam Charlotte took the National Poetry Slam Championship title, beating out over 84 teams from across North America. The Carolina Slam Team features poems from individual poets as well as group pieces and, like the National Poetry Slam, judges will be chosen randomly from the audience. Simply put, poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry. It puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they're saying and how they're saying it.
