Carolina Panthers Return to the Upstate Friday

The Carolina Panthers 2008 training camp will take place at Spartanburg's Wofford College July 25 through August 13. All training camp practices are free and open to the public, with each practice session lasting between 90 minutes and two hours.

The Panthers have prepared for the upcoming season at Wofford each summer since their inaugural campaign in 1995. This year, the Panthers return for their 14th training camp at one of the finest training camp facilities in the NFL.

Free parking is provided at the top of the hill on the right of Twitty Street, right off of Pine Street (I-585) in Spartanburg. The practice fields are on the left.

While at training camp, help support the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Upstate by participating in auctions for autographed Panthers memorabilia or making a monetary donation. Volunteers from Dixon Hughes PLLC, the largest accounting and advisory services firm in the Southeast, will collect contributions outside the main gate to the practice fields before each session.

The Panthers offer the following Training Camp survival tips for fans who'd like to come out:

  • Bring a hat, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen since shade is at a premium. You will sweat, so having a towel is a good idea.
  • Comfortable shoes are a must since the action moves from field-to-field during practice.
  • For those who prefer to sit in one place, a blanket, folding chair or umbrella can make the experience more comfortable. Arriving early gives you the opportunity to select a prime spot, maybe even a shaded one.
  • Coolers are not allowed. Vendors will be selling food, drinks and souvenirs.
  • A camera helps make the memory of a day at training camp permanent.
  • Team rosters are available at the Spartanburg Convention & Visitors Bureau tent at the entrance to the practice area.
  • Autograph seekers should bring a Sharpie marker for players to use to sign autographs and an item, such as a photograph, football, football card or other momento to sign. Good manners go a long way. Players are not required to sign autographs. It is something special they do for their fans. Not every player will sign autographs every every day. Though training camp is entertainment for the fans, it is hot and hard work for the players.
