Military Museum Sets New Attendance Record
For the fifth year in a row, the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum has set a new attendance record. Visitation for the 2007-08 year ending June 30 was the highest the museum has experienced to date, despite being closed for approximately a month and a half during renovation construction. The recently expanded museum offers plenty for visitors to see, including a new exhibit on World War I, “Forgotten Stories: SC Fights the Great War.”

Crescent Resources has sold 63 acres of pristine land on Lake Jocassee to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The land will be managed as part of South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR)’s Jocassee Gorges, a 33,000-acre tract of Wildlife Management Area (WMA) lands around Lake Jocassee that features dozens of waterfalls, 3,000-foot peaks and lush forests inhabited by rare species of plants and animals.

The purchase is part of an effort to keep these forests in productive timber management and protect the area’s clean water and abundant fish and wildlife habitat, while promoting continued public access to these lands for fishing, hiking, hunting and other recreational pursuits.
