thru May 11 - "Dr. Entomo's Palace of Exotic Wonders" ~ Insect Exhibit - Learn about bizarre live insects from around the world. Reminiscent of a traditional circus sideshow, the exhibit will feature more than two-dozen living and mounted insects ranging from glow-in-the-dark scorpions to bird-eating tarantulas. Visitors will also witness the wonders of metamorphosis as butterflies emerge from their chrysalis in "Winged Transformers," a corresponding butterfly house exhibit, www.ncarboretum.org.

thru May 11 - New Traveling Science Exhibit - Beginning January 19, 2008 and continuing through May 11, 2008, the Arboretum will present "Dr. Entomo's Palace of Exotic Wonders," an exhibit that displays living and mounted insects and other arthropods from around the world. thru May 18 - 23rd Annual Festival of Flowers - Each spring Biltmore's Festival of Flowers celebrates the beauty of George W. Vanderbilt's 8,000-acre property and its original design by Frederick Law Olmsted, father of American landscape architecture. During this time, the estate's legendary gardens showcase a seasonal display of vibrant colors from thousands of tulips in the Walled garden to native and exotic blooms in the 20-acre azalea garden. Biltmore's gardens, Olmsted's final and most grand project, are in their 118th year, continuing to mature and growing more beautiful every year. Festivities across the estate include live music, interaction with Biltmore gardeners, storytelling from Biltmore historians, cooking demonstrations, children's activities and craft seminars. thru May 18 - 23rd Annual Festival of Flowers - Discover the beauty of the estate during Biltmore's Festival of Flowers, when our stunning floral displays usher in spring. May 17 - Contra Dance - 7:30-10:30 pm at the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center, 117 Boone Street in Jonesborough, TN. This dance will feature Spring Chickens (Rob & Beth Mangum, Art Shuster, Meredith McIntosh) with caller Laurie Fisher. Class for beginners at 7:00pm. Then the dance will take up the rest of the evening concluding at 10:30pm. As always, a country waltz break will occur at 9:00pm. No partner is necessary. All dances are taught by the caller. All dances are smoke and alcohol free. Admission to the dance is $7, $ for HJDS members and $4 for students. We welcome families with children in hopes of teaching the fine art of folk dance for generations to come.
