Following is a list of just of a few of the many attractions that make the Upstate & Western North Carolina Area one of the Southeast's leading tourist destinations. The Upstate is home to three symphony orchestras, several professional ballet companies, more than a dozen community theaters, numerous art galleries and a progressive arts community. There are also many exciting nightclubs in the region!

The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg
Welcome to the Arts in Spartanburg. This site will outline for you the cultural activities taking place in Spartanburg, SC. Brookgreen Gardens Upstate SculpTOUR
Explore the art of sculpture up close and personal when Brookgreen Gardens presents 20 works from its world-renowned sculpture collection. This year-long exhibit in South Carolina's Upstate will be open to the public at Converse College, Wofford College, and the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, SC.

BMW Zentrum
See the cars, the speed, the innovation – all for free in the only BMW museum in North America. The Zentrum is part meeting and events center, part café, part gallery, and part time machine. Located next to the only BMW manufacturing plant in the US, this museum of motion offers something for everyone.

Chimney Rock Park
In one place, the best of the mountains. Here you’ll find a variety of hiking trails – fun for the whole family or a little time alone; 75-mile views overlooking Lake Lure, Hickory Nut Gorge and the Blue Ridge foothills; 404-foot Hickory Nut Falls - showcased in the 1992 movie, “The Last of the Mohicans”; a 26-story elevator blasted out of the inside of the mountain and special events, guided hikes and rock climbing and activities for groups, too. Carolina Foothills Artisan Center
The Carolina Foothills Artisan Center in Chesnee, SC is organized and shall operate exclusively as a nonprofit corporation to develop the educational, artistic, cultural and economic growth of the Upstate by providing means for North and South Carolina artists to demonstrate the creative process and to showcase the products of their talents to a wide variety of citizens and by providing a place for citizens to learn about and purchase the work of Carolina artisans.

Carolina Panthers Training Camp
The Carolina Panthers train every summer at Wofford College, and host a variety of camps, competitions, and programs. Football fans are welcome to watch practices; it is strongly suggested that fans bring blankets, towels, folding chairs, or golf-type stools to make the hillside a more comfortable spot, and also sunscreen and hats.

Cowpens Depot, Museum, and Civic Center
Housed in a 100-year-old freight depot, this historical museum features town artifacts and relics belonging to the crew of the USS Cowpens, a famous World War II aircraft carrier. The depot also holds family reunions, meetings, and church functions. Visit the website of historic Cowpens, SC for information on attractions and events.

Cowpens National Battlefield
Cowpens National Battlefield in Cowpens, SC commemorates a decisive battle that helped turn the tide of war in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution. The battle at the "Cow Pens," one of only a few successful double envelopments in history, is recognized by historians as one of the most important of the American Revolution.

Hampton Heights Historic District
Hampton Heights was founded in the 1880's and '90's. The first residents were upper middle-class professionals who built large Victorian homes, including a number in the style that became known as Queen Anne. In the early decades of the twentieth century, these Victorian houses gave way to an explosion of Arts and Crafts bungalows. Hampton Heights is now a wonderfull diverse inner-city neighborhood.

Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve
The mission of Hatcher Garden & Woodland Preserve is to be a place for the public to come for inspiration, enjoyment and education through the study of nature. The Garden is home to over 10,000 trees, shrubs and flowers. Admission is free.

Hollywild Animal Park
Hollywild Animal Park is located near Inman in Spartanburg County, one of the most scenic and culturally diverse areas of South Carolina's Upcountry. Nestled on over 100 acres, Hollywild is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to providing an interactive and enlightening experience for our visitors as we continually improve the lives of our animals in an enriching and respectful environment.

Kings Mountain National Military Park
2005 Marks the 225th Anniversary of the Battle of Kings Mountain. Kings Mountain National Military Park, in Youkr and Cherokee Counties, SC, commemorates a pivotal and significant victory by American Patriots over American Loyalists during the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War, which destroyed the left wing of Cornwallis' army and effectively ended Loyalist ascendance in the Carolinas.

Lawson's Fork Creek
Lawson's Fork is now accessible to paddlers who want to put in at Whitney and float to the Cottonwood Trail, a distance of 4.5 river miles. A crew from V. Palmetto Builders has completed work on the "put-in" just below the dam, along U.S. Highway 221.

Magnolia Street Station
Built in 1904, the station is currently home to Amtrak and to the Spartanburg Convention and Vistors Bureau. A 1996 fire gutted the interior of the station; much of the credit for its survival goes to then-16 year old Trey Davis, a Spartanburg native who initiated a campaign to save station in the week after the fire.

Milliken & Company Campus is the perfect place for a picnic. Open during daylight hours, the park-like campus has green fields, ponds and fountains, and a jogging trail. Take the California Avenue exit on Pine Street/585, cross the bridge and turn left on the frontage road.

The Music Foundation of Spartanburg Concert Series
The Music Foundation of Spartanburg's mission is to educate, entertain and enrich people's lives through music. The Music Foundation of Spartanburg Concert Series presents world-class artists and the Greater Spartanburg Philharmonic. The concert series runs from September to April and consists of classical, jazz, pop, folk, and holiday programs. Most performances are held at Twitchell Auditorium. 864-948-9029

Peachoid Water Tower is the 1-million-gallon water tank built by the Gaffney Commission of Public Works to honor the state's (and particularly Cherokee County's) fresh peach industry. The giant peach is easily seen from I-85, but you can take the exit for S.C. Highway 11, Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway, for a closer look.

The Price House
Thomas Price built this house on 144 acres in Woodruff, SC around 1795. The farm grew to be over 2000 acres. Come see this beautiful, old-timey house in the Upstate.

The Regional Museum of History of Spartanburg County
The Regional Museum was established in 1961 with a grant from the Spartanburg County Foundation. In 1999, the Museum moved to the "old Belk" building on Main Street in Spartanburg.

The Spartanburg County Museum of Art

The Spartanburg Little Theatre
The mission of the Spartanburg Little Theatre is to activate, cultivate, and educate our community by providing quality theatrical experiences. They stage at least four productions a year including comedies, dramas, and musical theatre. Performances are at the David Reid Playhouse. 864-585-8278

Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium
Spartanburg's grand old lady, the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, reopened after an extensive $10.5 million renovation, and is a great venue for entertainment. The new renovations include a new lobby, complete with custom carpeting, a specialty coffee bar, copper chandeliers, and arched skylights. The concession stand has rich oak cabinets behind the counter, and just around the corner is a new souvenir booth.

The Spartanburg Repertory Company
The Spartanburg Reperatory Company provides accessible cultural community enrichment and educational opportunities through professional quality experiences in the various aspects of opera, operettas and musicals, thereby developing area talent and promoting community appreciation in the Upstate.

The Spartanburg Youth Theatre
The group features young actors in productions designed for viewing by the entire family. Performances are staged at the David Reid Playhouse and has administrative and ticket offices with its sponsor, the Spartanburg Little Theatre, on the second floor of the Arts Center. 864-583-4891

The Spartanburg Science Center
Offers programs in natural history and science to schools, scout troupes, summer camps, parks and recreations centers, and other interested groups. Has a portable Star lab planetarium available for programs. 864-583-2777

Walnut Grove Plantation
Walnut Grove Plantation is on land granted in 1763 by King George III to Charles Moore when the area was known as the backcountry. The documented collection of antique furnishings and accessories vividly portrays living conditions in Spartanburg County prior to 1805.

The Greenville County Museum of Art offers its visitors a way to sample the very best in American art through traveling exhibitions and exhibitions drawn from its own collection. It also offers art classes, evening programs, and information for teachers and school classes.

Jones Gap State Park
Greenville County, SC
Picnicking and trailside camping in one of South Carolina's most pristine wilderness areas in the Upcountry can be enjoyed at this 3,346-acre park. Located in the 10,000-acre Mountain Bridge Wilderness and Recreation Area, this park encompasses the Middle Saluda River, designated the state's first scenic river. In addition, the park is an access point to the Foothills Hiking Trail.

Palmetto Trail
Not yet completed, this trail will eventually link the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. Several passages are currently open in Santee Cooper Country. For more information, contact the Palmetto Conservation Foundation at 803-771-0870.

16th SC Volunteers Museum of Confederate History

The 16th South Carolina Volunteers Museum of Confederate History boasts a large and growing collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the War Between the States. The collection includes firearms, photographs, flags, edged weapons, currency, clothing, letters, newspapers, and other items from military and home life.

Flat Rock Playhouse
